Will you help us “Fight for them & fight with them?”
In 2009, a group of moms sat around a kitchen table to plan the first Cardinal Strut Race. They made a promise that their friends’ sons—Bryson Parry and Jakob Hatton — who passed away from childhood cancer, would never be forgotten. Like all little boys, Bryson and Jakob loved to run and play so the initial funds raised from the Cardinal Strut Race were used to build a community track and memorial playground at Holly Tree Elementary.
Six years later, in 2015, this same group of moms had the good fortune to meet Owen Preston, who had recently been diagnosed with childhood cancer. Owen was a local expert at catching frogs, eating french fries and fighting one courageous battle with cancer.
Watching Owen and his family battle cancer inspired these ladies to support other local families whose children were diagnosed with cancer, which led to the formation of Strut for Kids as a 501(c)(3) in 2016.
Strut for Kids continues to raise funds to support local childhood cancer families through annual events like the Cardinal Strut Race and the Owen Preston Bingo Night.
